Special Needs Teaching Assistant - 2015
During my senior year of high-school I was a teaching assistant for a middle school math class of special needs students. Duties included tutoring, grading homework and tests, and substituting.
Howler Monkey Research - 2015
I joined a research project with my high-school anthropology teacher where we traveled to Costa Rica and did surveys of howler monkeys in Corcovado National Park. The project included research plots, population studies, and identification of individuals in troupes to analyze their behaviors.
Mote Marine Laboratory- 2016
Through a class at Florida Keys Community College I had the chance to volunteer at Mote where I helped work on coral reef restoration. My duties included fragmenting coral for reproduction, cleaning the lab, and documenting the health of each coral so they can be distributed into the reef.
Southwestern Research Station - Museum of Natural History - 2017
Worked at the MONH station in the Chiricahua mountains studying ornithology, herpetology and entomology under researchers. Duties included kitchen work, housekeeping and maintaining bird feeders; in my free time I was able to help scientists perform their research by collecting specimens and working in the lab. I worked with the Cochise County Historical Society for archaeological digs. I also got the opportunities to work with the National Hummingbird Society and the Hawk Watch group where we captured and recorded information on fledglings, hummingbirds, owls, and hawks for release.
Project Access Scholarship - 2017-2018
At Florida Keys Comm. College, I received the Project Access scholarship where I was paired with a special needs student as my dorm mate. The scholarship entailed that I help her develop life skills, and help her learn how to be self-sufficient. We joined the Marine Biology and Scuba Diving clubs, and I helped her to take advantage of everything the college had to offer. Duties included helping her apply for jobs, taking her shopping, teaching her chores and maintaining her space, helping her study, helping her to create a regimented routine, and providing her with inclusion and friendship.
Animal Fostering - 2024
At my job at One Step Closer Animal Rescue (OSCAR), I fostered some of our dogs who did not seem to respond well to living in the kennel. at adoption events, I would bring my foster dog so they could be met and seen by those looking to adopt, eventually resulting in their happy and successful adoptions.
