Experience and Coursework

Title:

Undergraduate Research Intern

Research Experience:

  • Worked with Professor Leon Offman from the University of Tel Aviv on a summer research project in solar physics utilizing python and existing computational models to study the speed and evolution of coronal mass ejections.
  • Utilized the cone model developed by professor Offman describing CME velocity and magnetic field evolution in order to compare it to existing CME data from spacecraft orbiting the sun, including the STEREO spacecraft, Solar Orbiter, SOHO, the DSCOVR spacecraft, and the Parker Solar Probe.
  • Compared the accuracy of Professor Offman's cone model to that of the 3DCORE flux rope ejection model developed by Andreas J. Weiss et al and published in 2021.
  • Developed an edge detection algorithm in python to track CME evolution from SOHO images and calculate CME velocity.
  • Completed a semester-long research project on Differential Geometry and the Gauss Bonnet Theorem in the Directed Reading Program in the math department at UMD
  • Worked with Professor Sylvester Gates at the University of Maryland on a summer internship in theoretical physics, researching topics such as Differential Geometry, Group Theory, Tensor Calculus, and Supersymmetry

Coursework and Self-Study:

  • Have completed several programming courses on languages such as Java, C++, JavaScript, Python, MATLAB, and HTML
  • Have completed or am currently enrolled in physics courses on Newtonian Mechanics, Electromagnetism, Wave Mechanics, Thermodynamics, Quantum Mechanics, and Special Relativity
  • Have completed or am currently enrolled in math courses on Calculus, Multi-Variable Calculus, Vector Calculus, Linear Algebra, Complex Analysis, Differential Equations, and Partial Differential Equations
  • Have completed three introductory physics lab courses at the University of Maryland on basic mechanics, circuits and electromagnetism, and optics
  • Currently enrolled in a lab course on design, fabrication, hands-on skills, repair, and construction and execution of physics experiments.
  • Research advanced topics in math, physics, and logic in my free time and craft popular science papers explaining such topics to laymen
  • Tutored friends in math and physics
  • Developed leadership skills as a counselor in the Israeli scouts for almost 3 years and won counselor of the year award during my first year
