Work History

Certified Teacher of the Visually Impaired

Dumas ISD
06.2006 - Current

I teach students who are visually impaired including low vision or blind. Some of them are academic students who are in the regular curriculum. I also work with others who are multiply impaired and are in alternative curriculum classes.

I teach braille to those who need that to help them access their curriculum in their classes. I also provide braillers, magnifiers, CCTVs, large print items, and modified computers to name just a few.

For my students who are multiply impaired as well as visually impaired, I work closely with the teachers in the classroom as well as the student.

When working with these student I use a lot of play to introduce new into their world.

With all of my students, I work on the Expanded Core Curriculum. I have done this in several ways. Throughout the Education Service Centers in Texas and Texas Workforce Blind Children's program, I have been involved with many camps, parent conferences, and student's skill training activities. We use these opportunities to teach our students social skills, independent living skills, communication, orientation and mobility, decision making skills, and many more. This has been one of the favorite parts of my job.
