Work History

Logistical Concierge

Gale Wayne's Trucking
02.2017 - 01.2021
  • My husband was an over-the-road truck driver for a company out of Lawton, Michigan
  • Every week, we would pick up camper parts from the Jayco Camper factory in Middlebury, Indiana, and deliver them to the Jayco factory in Twin Falls, Idaho
  • There were other runs to Portland, OR; Nogales, AZ; Everglades, FL farm country to a pickle factory in Imlay, Michigan; and everywhere in between, and it was my job to know what the traffic situation was in Chicagoland, IL, and know alternate routes without tolls to get us around any delays
  • Also, plan the fuel stops accordingly to avoid ever having to use a truck stop on the other side of the highway, which would cost us drive time on the clock
  • Navigating the conditions on the mountain and rerouting to avoid weather delays, coordinating with various warehouse managers, scheduling pick-up and deliveries, and the paperwork that proceeded
  • Our underlying goal was to complete as many miles as permitted in a week's time, and it was logistical possible by Gale (the driver); we did it because it equaled you getting paid more for your time

Dunnage forklift operator (Thru Time Staffing)

Keller's Warehouse and Packaging
11.2016 - 02.2017
  • After performing all the necessary prechecks, I used the forklift to unload the trailers full of palette sheets and palettes and sort them into stacks
  • Once enough return inventory amounts were met, I rewrapped, logged, and reloaded the trailers as necessary to clear any warehouse inventory space

Machine Operator

Tenneco
08.2015 - 11.2016
  • I tended to fabricate machines such as cut-off saws, shears, rolls, brakes, presses, forming machines, spinning machines, and punches that cut shape and bend metal plates, sheets, tubes, and structures by performing the duties included in the following:
  • I read job specifications to determine machine adjustments and material requirements
  • I set stops or guides to specified lengths as indicated by scale, rule, or template
  • I positioned the workpiece against stops or aligned layout marks with the die or blades
  • I pushed the button or depressed the pedal or pedals to activate the machine
  • I observed the machine's operation to detect workpiece defects or machine malfunction
  • I measured workpiece dimensions to determine the accuracy of the machine's operation
  • I removed burrs, sharp edges, rust, or scale from the workpiece
  • I performed minor machine maintenance such as oiling machines, dies, or work pieces
  • I assisted other machine operators in setting up their machines and stacking, marking, packing, and transporting finished workpieces via forklift and overhead cranes
  • I spot-welded workpieces when needed

Citizen Scientist

Citizen Scientist Activities:

  • Data Classification: This is a common activity where you'll be presented with images, sounds, or videos and asked to classify them based on specific criteria. For example, you might categorize galaxies in space photos, identify animal species in camera trap footage, or classify shapes in astronomical data.
  • Transcription: Sometimes, scientific data comes in the form of handwritten notes or historical documents. As a citizen scientist, you can help transcribe this information into a digital format, making it easier for researchers to analyze.
  • Discussion Forums: Many projects on Zooniverse have forums where you can discuss your findings with other citizen scientists and researchers. This can be a valuable way to learn from others and contribute to the project's overall understanding.

Citizen scientists on Zooniverse collaborate with professional researchers from various fields, including astronomy, ecology, zoology, medicine, and climate science.

These researchers design the projects, provide instructions, and ultimately use the data collected by citizen scientists to answer their research questions.
