Briefbiography

I was born in Nebraska into a large extended family. My maternal and paternal great-grandparents were pioneers who homesteaded in the Great Plains. During my youth I experienced some of that same self sufficient lifestyle on our family farms and ranches, where community work and spirit was, and is, still the norm. At age 10 we moved to the east coast as my father enlisted as an officer in the army and he taught at West Point. Because of my father's career in the military, I was able to travel extensively in this country, and lived on both the East and West Coasts. After graduating from high school I moved to Santa Barbara to study at SBCC and then moved to Eastern Washington to study therapeutic recreation and sports at EWU. During the summer while in college I went to Hawaii and became a waitress and worked in various sports related jobs. At that time I knew I wanted to teach, but I was searching for some type of alternative education. I observed classes at the Haleakala Waldorf School and began to study Steiner's works. I made the decision that this was the path that I had been searching for and I applied and was accepted to Emerson College. I received my teaching credentials from Emerson College. I began my teaching career as a kindergarten assistant and then became a class teacher at Haleakala Waldorf.
