Medical Assistant Duties:
Direct patient care included greeting patients, introducing myself prior to rooming them, obtaining vital signs for four providers, conducting SIBO (breath test) and H. pylori tests, drawing blood including preparation of designated lab work and specimens directed by the provider, preparing capsule studies, double covering other providers when needed, assisting providers in the exam room as needed, assisting in data entry (patient demographics), mailing pathology reports to referring physicians, and entering recalls for the next colonoscopy. I contacted physicians for previous medical records, called patients with results per the provider’s instructions, assisted with follow-up appointments, and was EMR and Epic trained. I also assisted with retrieving messages from all fellow coworkers and submitted prior authorizations for medications for all providers. Assisted with covering breaks and absences, ensured cleanliness, sanitation, and maintenance of the nurse station, including exam rooms and the lab room, medical equipment, and made sure that all exam rooms were fully stocked and ready for the next business day. Room patients, obtain vital signs, and document/update pertinent health information (chief complaint, allergies, medication reconciliation, etc.). Chart abstraction, including patients' history prior to patient visits, scanning any pertinent medical records into the EMR system, assisting patients with filling out disability forms, providing immunization records when requested by the patient, administering injections, coverage for other providers, double coverage when short-staffed, also covered in other offices/locations when asked by management, completing all assigned tasks through the EMR system, triaging messages prior to forwarding to the provider, submitting prescriptions, EKGs, ear lavage, preparing to send out cultures, pap smears, and troubleshooting computer problems. Maintained immunization logs, mammogram, pap smear, testosterone, and x-ray logs for quality assurance. Ensured the cleanliness, sanitation, and maintenance of the nurse station, including each exam room and medical equipment. Made sure all exam rooms were fully stocked with medical supplies, assisted fellow co-workers when needed, and ensured that the assigned and/or covering provider completed the office visit note, including the CPT code, at the end of the day.
Front Office Duties:
Greet all patients, answer heavy multi-phone lines including the provider back line, schedule appointments for all physicians, and manage 10 provider schedules, including blocking and opening schedules as directed by management. Assist with the process of checking patients in and collecting copayments, provide productivity statistics at the end of the day per provider, assist with management projects when needed, including batching cash and check deposits, provide monitored/locked immunizations to fellow coworkers when the manager is out of the office, assist with diffusing patient complaints, and provide coverage in all areas of the office when needed and asked by management.
