Featured Projects

  • University of Washington Medical Center, $41,000,000, Seattle, WA, Eight-floor expansion included diagnostic imaging, surgery, neonatal intensive care, and bone marrow transplant unit, all served by a large interstitial mechanical space and central utility plant. MacDonald-Miller utilized Lean principles with prefabrication, work packages, pull planning, and JIT deliveries. Phase II added an additional three levels, including a bone marrow transplant unit on Level 8. In order to maintain continuous hospital operations throughout construction, this project was meticulously organized sequentially in over 80 construction phases allowing for incremental occupancy milestones. The 1600-ton Central Utility Plant (CUP) included two heat recovery chillers totaling 500 tons and a 7,500-MBH cooling tower. Patient and life safety was of primary importance and was the carefully considered along each step of the project. Priced and processed 850 change orders over a 4 year period.
  • Swedish Medical Center North Tower $130,000,000 Seattle, WA, Preconstruction lead for a state of the art Hospital Tower at Swedish First Hill. The North Tower is comprised of 15 levels totaling 742,785 GSF. Consisting of new sterilization, emergency, imaging, operating and ICU patient floors, the North Tower sets the standard for efficient design with integration into an existing healthcare campus. The overall project schedule with the current construction team has included 3 years of preconstruction followed by a 3 year construction schedule.
