• Field Manager / Senior Technician, Operations, Maintenance and Monitoring (OMM) at the ST012 Former Liquid Fuels Storage Facility Steam Enhanced Extraction (SEE) and Soil Vapor Extraction (SVE) Systems, Mesa, AZ, 91011, MM/DD/YY, This was a performance-based remediation contract for an extensive, mixed use former Air Force Base (AFB) undergoing cleanup with Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) oversight using various remedial approaches in support of site closure. Patrick performed subcontractor and special projects oversight during implementation of Steam Enhanced Extraction (SEE) at the former Williams AFB ST012 site. He served as Site Health and Safety Officer. Patrick provided technical and operational assistance of SEE water/air treatment equipment including shallow tray air strippers, liquid phase granular active carbon (GAC), boilers for the production of steam, thermal accelerators, and a thermal oxidizer. He developed and implemented a safe and efficient method for skimming light non-aqueous phase liquid (LNAPL) from surrounding monitoring wells during SEE operations. Patrick also conducted routine OMM of the site SVE system, which extracts up to 1,000 standard cubic feet per minute (scfm) of air impacted with JP-4 from 14 nested well installations and directs the air to either a flame oxidizer or thermal/catalytic oxidizer (depending on extracted vapor concentrations). He performed routine soil, groundwater, soil vapor, and waste sampling to support site remediation. Patrick was also responsible for mentoring junior staff and serving as a senior technical resource to field personnel.
• Field Manager / Senior Technician, OMM at the Former Base Landfill (LF004) Soil Vapor and Groundwater Remediation Systems, Mesa, AZ, 2014 – Ongoing, Wood was selected to build, install, and operate sodium permanganate injection systems to deliver and distribute oxidant for treatment of chlorinated solvents in groundwater (primarily trichloroethene [TCE] and tetrachloroethene [PCE]). Patrick coordinated logistics and safe management of oxidant on-site. A temporary containment system for the oxidant was constructed. Patrick performed OMM of In Well Air Stripping (IWAS) treatment equipment including groundwater recirculation pumps, an air compressor for air sparging (AS), SVE equipment, and vapor phase GAC. He also sampled groundwater, soil vapor, and investigation-derived waste in support of site remediation activities.
• Senior Technician, Remedial Action Implementation at Cave Creek Landfill, Maricopa County Risk Management Department, Phoenix, AZ, 2014 – Ongoing, This project consisted of the characterization and remediation of trichloroethene (TCE) impacts to soil vapor and groundwater underlying the closed Cave Creek Landfill, which is located adjacent to residential property in a desert alluvial basin with a 600-foot thick vadose zone. Patrick performed routine OMM of a 600 scfm SVE system that discharges to a multi-staged treatment system using GAC and potassium permanganate-impregnated media.
• Senior Technician, Former 7th Street Texaco Service Station Site Soil and Groundwater Remediation, Phoenix, AZ, 2016, This project included the investigation and remediation of a leaking underground storage tank (LUST) site. Patrick performed troubleshooting of a Perozone modular sparge system (patented by Kerfoot Technologies), which uses pulsed injection of peroxide-coated ozone / air microbubbles to treat petroleum hydrocarbon-impacted groundwater and soil.
• Senior Technician, System Installation and OMM at an ADEQ Former Retail Petroleum Station, Wickenburg, AZ, This project included the remediation of a LUST site. Patrick performed the installation, OMM, troubleshooting, and repairs of remediation systems including ozone sparging (OS), air sparging (AS), groundwater extraction (GWE), and SVE systems. This substantially increased the operational uptime of the existing treatment systems. Patrick also performed groundwater sampling and sample management.
• Senior Technician, System Installation and O&M at ADEQ Former Convenience Store Site, Somerton, AZ, This project included the remediation of a LUST site. Patrick performed the installation and OMM of an ozone sparging system in conjunction with SVE, troubleshooting, and repairs. He also performed groundwater sampling and sample management.
• Senior Technician, Drilling and System Installation Oversight, Central America, Patrick performed the oversight of drilling and system installation including fuel recovery and SVE systems. He was also responsible for the health and safety of crews and training and reinforcement of the LPS.
• Senior Technician, Tank Excavation Assessments, AZ, TX, and the Caribbean, Patrick performed tank excavation assessments for sites in the US and the Caribbean.
• Senior Technician, Remediation Activities, TX, US Virgin Islands, and Mexico, Patrick performed remediation system installation, maintenance, and decommissioning in El Paso, Texas; remediation system maintenance, land farm drilling, sampling, and soil classification in St. Croix, US Virgin Islands; and soil excavation and sampling, drilling, and system installation oversight in Mexico City, Mexico. He also conducted numerous Loss Prevention Observations (LPOs).
