Summary

I have always had a keen interest in the weather, and the reasons why and how weather changes, finding thunderstorms and severe weather particularly fascinating. Following a rich and fulfilling career as a National Weather Service forecaster, with a desire to keep up my interest in meteorology including working part-time in the field of professional interest.

  • Issued seven-day public forecast packages for 48 county and parish warning area comprising four-state Arklatex region.
  • Issued a twenty-four-hour aviation forecast (TAF) for airports in Shreveport, Monroe, El Dorado, Texarkana, Tyler, Longview, and Lufkin.
  • Scheduled and performed community outreach through public appearances, school visits and station tours to increase station awareness.
  • Using WSR-88D radar data, responsible for issuing tornado, severe thunderstorm, and flash flood warnings for storms within our County Warning Area. In addition to issuance of short fused storm warnings for potentially life-threatening conditions, also issued long fused advisories, watches, and warnings for a variety of other weather hazards. Also, assisted with issuance of severe storm watches after collaborating with neighboring NWS offices and the Storm Prediction Center (SPC).

  • Using 74-C radar data, issued tornado, severe thunderstorm, and flash flood warnings for Northeast Mississippi.
  • Reviewed information from radar and satellite imagery, weather reporting agencies and air station observations to compile local forecast for Northeast Mississippi.
  • Manually voice-recorded local forecast, climate data, and current conditions, along with any non-routine watch and warning information on NOAA Weather Radio.
  • Most commonly was on station by myself, even during periods of inclement weather.

  • Recorded hourly airport weather observations which included precipitation type, wind speed and direction, cloud heights and coverage, air pressure, temperature, humidity, and visibility, in addition to any supplementary data involving lightning and starting and stopping times of various weather phenomena visible from airport
  • of staff 24-hour rotation work schedule to best suit the needs of each employee, and mailing of monthly weather data from site.
