Responsible for overseeing all domestic newsgathering for the network and selecting top stories to share companywide during the weekday overnight hours
This includes any breaking news and local stories that are connected to a larger, national trend
Generate original reporting of those stories for CBS Mornings, CBS Evening News, CBSNews.com, CBS Radio, stream, and Newspath (affiliate service)
Confirm breaking news by reaching out to police/ fire departments, emergency services, and other agencies via email, cold calls, or on social media
Deploy crews when necessary
Gather primary source material via PACER, local and state court records, Nexis, regulatory filings, legal/corporate/governmental representatives, and FOIA requests
Compile the "What's Happening" daily planning note which shapes CBS News’ editorial coverage for all shows and platforms
Report directly to the Senior Vice President of Domestic Newsgathering
