Corporal/Detective

COLTON POLICE DEPT.

  • The position of Corporal (field operations) requires me to supervise and closely observe the activities of subordinates. I am to ensure that subordinates are in compliance with department policy/procedures and assist with their appointed task. While assigned to the investigative bureau, I interact with a vast range of groups, organizations and representatives while investigating crimes and solving criminal cases. In addition to arresting criminal offenders, I interview suspects/witnesses, identify persons of interest, examine crime scenes, compile/analyze information, and gather clues/evidence that are pertinent to a specific investigation.
  • Canine Supervisor
  • As a canine supervisor, I provide administrative support for Colton Police Department’s Canine Unit and ensure the department’s police service dog program is properly maintained. This administrative duty includes: budgeting, monitoring personnel, training, scheduling, record keeping, and report review.
  • Field Training Officer
  • In this position I help develop and train new police officers for the department. I have trained in all three phases, helping new officers learn the city, department policies and procedures, basic elements of crimes, and how to become a proficient police officer in the City of Colton. This position requires a great deal of patience, pride, and the ability to lead by example. I supervised, reviewed reports, and completed daily observation reports.
  • Canine Officer
  • As a K-9 Handler I patrol with and care for a police service dog. I am responsible for the use of the police service dog on narcotic detections, building searches, tracking suspects or missing persons, and related law enforcement activities. Being a K-9 Handler is one of the most difficult responsibilities in the entire police department. I am under constant observation from the community and am regularly involved in public relations.
  • Patrol Officer
  • As a patrol officer, I provide general law enforcement expertise, monitor traffic, individuals, and assigned areas to maintain strong community presence and deter, minimize and address criminal activity. Apply complex legal and regulatory requirements to emergent and rapidly evolving situations; collect evidence and maintain chain of evidence. Support investigative teams as necessary. Support training and development of police trainees as a Field Training Officer. Collateral duties included Honor Guard and Canine Agitator/Decoy.
  • Department Honor Guard
  • Under direction of the Chief of Police, this prestigious position represents the department and city at all ceremonial functions. Functions include: funerals, graduations, parades, and memorials. Officers assigned to this team are specially selected, operate with minimal supervision, train regularly, and are required to travel throughout the State of California.

  • As a deputy sheriff I excelled through the academy and was assigned to the custody division. My duties included: classification, segregation, jail security, court services, transportation, and monitoring of inmates from local, state and federal levels. These assignments allowed me to learn how to navigate and retrieve information in various computer systems, conform to numerous policy and procedure requirements, and become a proficient law enforcement officer in the county’s judicial process.
  • Corrections Training Officer / Mentor
  • This position allowed me to train new deputies who entered the custody system on department policies and procedures. I welcomed them into both, the agency and the field of law enforcement. As a CTO/Mentor I was required to supervise, train, review reports, and complete daily evaluations per POST, STC, and department requirements.

  • My duties included military leadership, management, and supervision. I performed security police (SP) functions that included: installation security, dignitary protection, weapon system maintenance, resource security, anti-terrorism, law enforcement, investigations, military working dog, air base defense, training, and combat arms.
  • Law Enforcement Desk Sergeant
  • As a desk sergeant I was responsible for overseeing all calls for service for the military police that served a military installation of over 11,000 people. I monitored radio transmissions from a communication center, allied agencies, fire department, and officers on patrol. Each patrol shift had 10 employees in which I completed/reviewed reports, arrests, daily evaluations, reprimands, conflict resolutions, schedules and daily report logs that were reviewed by Base Commanders and Administrators. I also served as a mentor and facilitator for new base arrivals. I tested for this honorary position (Desk Sergeant) and was selected at the age of twenty; becoming McClellan Air Force Base’s youngest Law Enforcement Desk Sergeant.
