Served as assistant crew boss for a ten-person fuels crew whose predominant function was to remove sagebrush and juniper trees by way of chainsaws, and to pile material to be burned during the winter months. The overall objectives of this endeavor are to provide better habitat for animals, which include the sage grouse and snow lynx, both of which are still currently on the federal endangered list of threatened species. When not involved in the above work, we also repaired a fence that was used to keep cattle away from riparian zones, where they posed a threat of damaging a crucial watershed. In addition, our crew was involved in multiple initial attacks, the very first and immediate response to a wildfire, and we went out of state to Colorado on a large fire that had been burning for quite some time, and we helped mitigate the destructive aspects of that fire.
