Throughout my career I have believed in service to others. Whether serving my country in the U.S. Army during Operation Desert Storm and Enduring Freedom, serving the citizens of New York as a New York State Trooper, or serving the members of the State Police as a Regional Coordinator in Employee Assistance, I have always strived to help and to make a positive difference.
I believe the skills I have learned through twenty plus years of training and real world experience in both the U.S. Army and the New York State Police make me an ideal candidate for the position of School Resource Officer in the Syracuse City School District. Most important is my ability to develop relationships built on trust, understanding and empathy. This innate ability has been further honed by my time as a Regional Coordinator in the New York State Police Employee Assistance Program where these traits, coupled with good listening skills, allowed me to best assist my clients. These same abilities will certainly help me form positive relationships with the students and staff in my school.
Should the need arise, my tactical training and my experience in applying those skills in combat overseas and in critical incidents here in New York State will help me keep safe those I am sworn to protect.
I look forward to the opportunity to once again be of service to my community by safeguarding the children of my city.
As a diver on the team I participated in body recoveries of drowning victims, submerged evidence recoveries, submerged vehicle recoveries to include cars and small planes. Also as a diver I trained as a swift water rescue technician and participated in flood responses where needed.
Assigned to SORT Central team located in Oriskany, NY and SORT South Central team located in Binghamton, NY. As an operator on the team I participated in high risk search and arrest warrants, search and rescue operations, barricaded subjects, fugitive tracks, dignitary protection, and vehicle takedowns. Worked as an instructor at SORT school and instructed small unit woodland tactics. Worked hand in hand with other departments to include Syracuse PD SWAT, FBI regional SWAT teams, DEA teams and more. While on the team I also served as a breacher and medic.
Assigned to SP Hastings Oswego County. Enforced the penal and vehicle and traffic laws to serve the people of the state of New York and Oswego County. Responded to 911 emergency calls and handled them accordingly.
As a non- commissioned officer serving in the above positions my primary goals were accomplishment of the mission and the welfare of the soldiers. As such I was responsible for the training of all soldiers in my team, squad or platoon depending on my position. This included small unit tactics, marksmanship, basic field medicine, mission planning, and care of equipment. Served three years of active duty time with the 10th Mountain Light Infantry Division located at Ft. Drum NY and 18 years in the North Carolina and New York National Guard. Deployed to the Sinai Egypt in 1990, Afghanistan in 2006, and Thailand for a training exercise in 2009.
