Summary

Self-driven field engineer with thirty-two years of experience dealing with Civil Engineers from all facets of Roadway Engineering from concept to delivery. My multi-faceted experiences from collecting in-situ data along proposed new corridors or improvements along existing corridors to overseeing the final construction has been a gratifying experience at times. Although I've had these opportunities and I'm grateful for them, I feel that my dedication and experience is not valued the way it should be. And it's getting more and more evident each day that the waste of resources and potential is not a concern.

  • Research online platted surveys and prepare electronic files that depict found and set monuments so the crews could find and make survey ties to existing boundary monuments
  • Process GNSS static data and perform network adjustments using Trimble Business Center on primary control for corridor jobs
  • Perform RTK network adjustments on baseline control using Trimble Business Center for corridor jobs
  • Process digital level loops through primary and baseline control
  • Review and approve crew time cards
  • Review and approve crew travel expense reports
  • Review topographic, utility & terrain surveys for correctness and completeness before submitting electronic survey design files to Roadway Design, Bridge Design and Right-of-Way Design divisions

  • Attended partnering meetings with construction contractor superintendents and ARDOT Resident Engineer and Assistant Resident Engineer
  • Performed checks on Roadway and Bridge Construction Layout
  • Identified design errors and discrepancies and made field changes where needed

  • Verified passing materials testing reports were submitted before approving an item for payment
  • Prepared and submitted bi-weekly contractor pay estimates

District Materials Supervisor

ARDOT
Camden, AR
03.2006 - 01.2007

  • Provided guidance to Resident Engineers regarding base course aggregates, concrete aggregates, asphalt aggregates, asphalt binders, asphalt mixtures, cement, concrete mixtures, emulsion oils and soils
  • Provided materials sampling and testing training to Material Inspectors in the three Resident Engineer offices in District 7
  • Performed routine inspections of asphalt batch plants
  • Performed routine inspections of how qualified asphalt suppliers were managing their aggregate stockpiles to avoid segregation and contamination
  • Performed routine inspections of concrete batch plants
  • Performed routine inspections of how qualified concrete suppliers were managing their aggregate stockpiles to avoid segregation and contamination
  • Performed routine sampling and testing on aggregate stockpiles from suppliers on the Qualified Products List
  • Provided assistance to the Resident Engineers in investigating materials failures

Construction Field Engineer I

ARDOT
Camden, AR
05.2005 - 03.2006
  • Same experience as described in the Advanced Construction Field Engineer title

Civil Engineer I

ARDOT
Camden, AR
07.2003 - 05.2005
  • Same experience described in Advanced Construction Field Engineer title with exception to the next description
  • After completing a B.S. in Civil Engineering, I spent about two months in the Roadway Design Division in Little Rock from May of 2003 to July 2003 and due to an economic hardship transferred back to the Resident Engineer Office No. 73 in Camden where I had began working with ARDOT prior to attending the University of Arkansas. As a new engineer with minimal design experience, I was tasked with re-designing a dangerous intersection that consisted of some lanes approaching from opposite directions that criss-crossed and were signed with some confusing yield signs. I performed the re-design, the construction layout and all the construction inspection on this project.

Education

Bachelor of Science - Civil Engineering

University of Arkansas
Fayetteville, AR
03-2003

Skills

  • Self-Motivated
  • Problem Solver and do my best to improvise and work with what I have unless of course it becomes costly and counterproductive
  • Attention to detail
  • Strong belief that the most successful communication starts with oral communication to minimize confusion with back and forth e-mails and that e-mails are great for documentation and recollection and that drawings are a great way of clarifying one's intent
  • Good at sorting work and prioritizing tasks based on necessary paths and deadlines
  • Leica Cyclone software for registering point clouds
  • Trimble Business Center for analyzing survey data and for performing post processing of GNSS static data and for performing control network adjustments for RTK measurements to baseline control along corridor work
  • Bentley MicroStation and InRoads to create topographic, terrain and utility design surveys and to perform roadway modeling of roadway surfaces and getting earthwork quantities from cross-sections
  • Good knowledge of hand computing roadway and bridge grades from plan typical sections and plan and profile sheets
  • Good but dated knowledge of materials sampling and testing
  • Some knowledge and experience using TopoDot to extract 3D line features from point clouds but not enough time doing it to become proficient
  • Strong desire to learn something new every day
  • Good at training others that care to learn and a strong appreciation for others willing to teach me things I do not know
  • Use of good judgement and tend to err on the side of caution
  • Accountable

Affiliations

  • Enjoy fishing
  • Enjoy traveling with my wife
  • Enjoy spending time with my kids and grand-daughter
