Accomplishments

In November 1997, Bobbi McCaughey gave birth to the world's first surviving set of septuplets. I led the medical team that planned and provided care for Mrs. McCaughey and her fetuses. My medical partner, Dr. Karen L. Drake, and I worked together well to advise best nutritional practices, counseling about stress reduction, preterm labor prevention, optimal hydration and physical discomfort. We assessed fetal weight gain and well-being with ultrasound and provided a safe, expeditious surgical delivery. The delivery received international attention and afforded the opportunity to educate the public about higher-order pregnancies.
