Following clients specific needs determined which type components went into each truck. I worked on the COE line. My specific duties were to install the proper wiring harnesses and steering columns. I also installed the steering boot, strobe lights and B post lights.
I used an impact gun to install certain parts.
Once all components were in I made sure the steering column and steering rod boxes were all torqued to exact specs.
I made sure the correct paperwork for each truck was utilized accordingly. Any issues with each truck got recorded on the accompanying paperwork before it moved on to the next section for further installation.
My job was to execute written instructions with precision to enable the construction of customized made to order products for various consumers.
Physical labor included utilizing a tiny water welder to adhere the specific wax parts to an already prepared sprue. Much care needed to be taken as many parts break very easily, which will cause issues down the line if the appropriate amount of parts aren't available.
Each specific job had its own set of instructions including how many parts per sprue, the direction each part must be laid out on the sprue et al.
My responsibilities included various jobs within the processing side of production.
I was responsible for gathering all ingredients for a particular batch by using a tractor (forklift). This was done by using a scanner to locate each product and to remove said product from the system to keep inventory in check. Once all ingredients were assembled I then used the batching sheet to weigh out exact portions of each additive for the batch. Transferred all product to the approproate station for mixing with water and other products.
I gathered samples of HFCS from the tops of the railcars and tested each batch for quality standards and recorded all data in the system.
I tested each syrup recipe to ensure all standards were within correct guidelines prior to any water being added, and once the batch was completely processed there were other standards that needed to be met by using the laboratory equipment.
I also did daily testing of the water samples to make sure there was no contamination or other discrepancies. This was a very physical job and i enjoyed every bit of it.
This job entailed making corrugated boxes. There were many aspects to this job, but the loadformer position is what I did. This was a fast paced job with no room for neatness. I am very detail oriented and just couldn't keep up with the pace of this machinery. This job was not well suited to my personality, hence the short employment time.
Used a tractor to move large circumference steel ingots. Also operated overhead cranes to place the ingots on specified work stations.
I started this journey on the Midwest Grinder, taking the grinding wheel to the slab and removing any impurities.
I also ran the Braun Saw and VA saw (both abrasive type saws), Amada Saw (CNC type band saw) and the Loeser Polisher. Every ingot was processed to the customers specs per accompanying paperwork.
USMC Reserves, August 1987- August 1993 Honorable Discharge
Attended Diesel Mechanics school for 9 months during which time I was trained in basic mechanical skills up to and including engine and transmission repair or replacement. I worked as a vehicle dispatcher at my unit in Allentown, PA where i verified that all tasks were completed on specific vehicles before any of them left the base. I also performed preventative maintenance on all military vehicles.
During the 1st Gulf War I was activated to Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, NC from 10/1991-02/1992 where i performed necessary maintenance on all military vehicles being returned stateside.
I am grateful that I could serve my country and learn skills along the way.
