IFC was the floral importer of fresh-cut flowers from South America and Central America, which were sold to U.S. floral wholesalers and Van's Wholesalers.

  • Took a dormant account portfolio and exponentially increased sales of premium Ecuadorean roses across 12 Northeastern states.

U.S. ARMY RESERVES CIVIL AFFAIRS BATTALION

U.S. Army Reserves

  • 478th Civil Affairs Battalion located in Perrine, Florida, in South Florida. Short enlistment because of a training physical injury accident that led to an honorable discharge.
  • Command Sergeant Major Jesse B. Davis wrote the following letter regarding my service in his unit: "To whom it may concern, It is an honor to write this letter of recommendation for Mr. Orta. I had the distinct privilege of working with him for five months while he was attached to the Holding Detachment, Headquarters and Service Company, 1st Armor Training Brigade. During this time I served as the Company First Sergeant and Mr. Orta worked for me as a Personnel Action Center Clerk (PAC), respectively. He is hard working, intelligent, self-motivated individual who eagerly seeks more responsibility. From 29 September 1995 to 22 February 1996 Mr. Orta was a valuable asset to the PAC. He worked hard to ensure that the PAC maintained its excellent reputation in assisting the soldiers of H&S Company. He prepared the morning status report that assisted me in keeping 100% accountability of over 140 soldiers assigned and attached to the company. He typed leave forms and managed the company's leave and pass program. He typed awards. Non Commissioned Officer Evaluation Reports, memorandum for the Company Commander, and always had a great attitude with everything that he did. Mr. Orta thrives on responsibility. He has often taken charge in the absence of orders. He displays a mature sense of judgment not often found in soldiers of his rank. He always takes the initiative. You can count on him to complete the mission. I would not hesitate to work with Mr. Orta again. I trust him implicitly. He carries my strongest recommendation for any position of leadership in the personnel/administrative field. Any organization can only grow and benefit from the performance of this fine individual. Sincerely, Jesse B. Davis, Command Sergeant Major US Army."

SALES ACCOUNT MANAGER

BellSouth Mobility D C S
06.1993 - 11.1994
  • Sales and account management in the cellular telecommunications field.
  • The company provided training, and the rest was for me to go out and find clients. Extensive cold calling in person and via telephone, knocking on doors, attending networking functions, and using personal networks to develop new clients. Fast-moving business environment requiring long hours to include weekend work. This was a seven-day-a-week job in which I thrived.
  • I hit the ground running, making quota the first month and thereafter exceeding quota to the point that by the end of the second quarter (six months), I had attained sales results of 200 percent of quota, the first person to do so. My efforts led to the top sales award for consecutive quarters and the top 20 percent company-wide award for successive quarters.
  • Eventually, after years of sales, it was time for me to focus on finding a way to get back to undergraduate school work. As such, I departed this job, signed up for U.S. Military service, and developed a plan to move forward.
