Growing up, I looked for avenues to invest my time in, ranging from sports and dancing to skills that unknowingly aligned with potential careers. My journey commenced in Mexico, where I realized the differences between the economic challenges there and in the US. Faced with the limitations of my parents' resources in Mexico, I actively looked for employment and eventually found myself at Margarito's Handyman Gig.
We worked extensively throughout the State of Mexico. I would leave school early to assist, earning 100 pesos a day—a significant honor for my younger self. Unfortunately, my commitment ended when I had to return to school after summer break, leading me to explore other opportunities, such as working at my uncle's barbacoa stand and cleaning cars with my cousin Vicente.
Upon returning to the US, I immersed myself in school. At 16, I applied for various jobs in my area, eventually securing a position at Micheladas Cafe y Cantina. My initial shyness transformed into effective communication and determination. I excelled in recommending dishes, managing tables, and serving as a host. However, due to scheduling conflicts with my school commute, I had to part ways with the job.
Following this, my father introduced me to an opportunity to learn the process of fixing and finishing drywall. I embraced the challenges and enjoyed the engagement the work offered. Despite exhaustion, I persevered, acquiring skills like hanging drywall, using fiber tape, applying different mud types for varying levels, and finishing with texturing techniques. Unfortunately, I was let go due to my age and looked for new opportunities.
At 18, lacking retail experience, I regretfully ventured into that field, enduring challenges beyond my control and losing interest in the work. Post high school, I decided to pursue a career in the trades. I delved into learning about electricity, joined the Union, and applied for an apprenticeship with the JATC. Joining Rosedin Electric Inc as a first-year apprentice, I absorbed valuable knowledge from journeymen, foremen, and learned from my own mistakes.
Despite facing challenges, such as a car crash leading to a layoff due to transportation issues, I am immensely grateful for the experience. I express my hunger for more opportunities, assuring you that if given the chance, I will approach this job with a daily commitment, a smile on my face, and readiness for any work environment conditions. My word is my bond, and I guarantee that choosing me for your team will not be a mistake.
