Principal Port Engineer

  • Responsible for the Life-Cycle Plan (LCP) for the USNS Kanawha including maintenance, repair, overhaul and modifications
  • Develop maintenance specifications and cost estimates within the ship’s availability schedule
  • Prioritize shipboard work requirements against LCP, budgetary requirements and limitations
  • Serve as the Command’s point of contact during maintenance availabilities for technical issues related to shipboard readiness, maintenance and repair strategies
  • Serve as the Command’s Project Manager to coordinate with third party service providers and regulatory bodies to ensure the vessel received its required maintenance with no delays to the ship’s schedule
  • Leading member of the Ship’s Management Team (SMT), serving as the Command’s technical expert providing the Ship’s Master and Chief Engineer information regarding ship’s budgetary status, required and planned maintenance, schedule configuration changes and Command Policy changes
  • Lead the Overhaul Management Team consisting of upwards of eight personnel assigned to the overhaul availability
  • Lead the team in coordinating inspection points, managing growth work and project management
  • Ensure the USNS Kanawha is in full compliance with requirements of cognizant regulatory bodies and the ship conforms to MSC and other required standards
  • Maintain liaison with American Bureau of Shipping and US Coast Guard to keep abreast of new engineer repair developments and regulations
  • Mentor junior engineers, providing guidance on technical issues and fostering professional development
