My name is Peter Joseph Demetri, and I am currently an undergraduate student at Arizona State, declared as a psychology major, hoping to pursue a concurrent undergraduate degree in neuroscience. I am passionate about helping others, and am not only hoping to one day become a psychotherapist, but also have an avid interest in pursuing a neuroscience PhD in order to discover more about the underlying brain mechanisms that contribute to psychopathology. ASU's counseling department mentioned your undergraduate summer brain research program as a potential opportunity to contribute to research, and upon familiarizing myself with the nature of your work, found an immediate desire to reach out in hopes of demonstrating my willingness to contribute to your research in any way I may be able to help. I have an immense drive to learn more about the field of neuroscience, as it is my greatest dream to contribute to further to the body of brain research in a manner that may help to develop new treatment options for those suffering from disorders that currently are not well understood. I am also greatly driven by the desire to gain knowledge on the brain and nervous system even in realms outside of psychological disorders, with a particularly interest in brain mechanisms underlying the enjoyment and performance of music (as I myself play three instruments). I feel that interning in your program may not only help me lay the foundation for my future studies by gaining better insight into the nature of how brain research is conducted, but I also feel that my drive to help those in suffering, my extensively rigorous work ethic, and my general ability as a speedy learner will allow me to be a great personal contributer to your cause as well. In addition, it may be of note I have a particular interest in working under the advising of Doctor Georgia Picci, as I have a shared interest in the topic of childhood adversity. However, if this is not possible. I am also happy to work with any other researchers who may have availability for interns, as all of the advisors listed on your websites researcher sounded fascinating. Although this is my first semester at ASU, and therefore have not established a GPA at this institution yet (as I just transferred here), I completed over a years worth of academic credits at Santa Monica College, with several courses being completed in neuroscience adjacent subjects. At this school I attained a 4.0 GPA. In addition, at a previous collegiate institution in my home sate of Massachusetts, North Shore Community College, I achieved a 3.76 GPA (though I had to stop attending after one semester there due to covid related health issues). Thank you for any and all consideration you may be willing to give me as a candidate, and I hope to hear from you soon.
