This position provides supervision and support for the Special Enforcement Division. This relatively new division has been charged with developing partnerships with the Milwaukee Police Department, Fire, Health, DCD, DPW, DOA, City Attorney, Department of Aging, Community Advocates, Child Protective Services and others. These partnerships allow strategic efforts to prevent, remove or correct nuisance properties throughout the City. This position will selectively assemble multiple agencies to focus on the worst problem properties and resolve the nuisance.
Additionally, this supervisor will oversee all of the complexities incorporated with issuing occupancy permits throughout the City thus ensuring the appropriate application of the Zoning Code. Review applications to the Board of Zoning Appeals, write DNS conditions of approval for BOZA applications, represent DNS at Board of Zoning Appeals hearings. Other duties include approval of State of Wisconsin salvage, scrapping and motor vehicle licenses and research complex zoning issues to provide relevant historical facts to the inspection staff. Provide direction for the timely monthly reinspection of all properties enrolled in the monthly reinspection program. Direct the inspection staff on tools and approaches to attain compliance on past-due orders.
Responsible for handling the inspection activities related to Department court cases under strict deadlines and at times in hostile environments. Served Department summons and citations.
