My Journey: Well, my health journey started over 18 years ago when I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes and tipped the scales at 355 lbs. I was put on medication and told the best I could expect was to manage it with drugs. So, the journey began, cut some carbs, cut back on caloric intake and started dropping some pounds. It was a slow process, and the doctors kept upping my meds. About 5 years in, I decided to opt for bariatric surgery as I had heard that there was some success with type 2 diabetics. I barely qualified because I had lost some weight.
The first part of the process was a prep period of a 30-day liquid protein diet and the result was a 40# weight loss. I decided then that I could do it myself and I told Joyce I was going to cancel the surgery and beat it. The next 11 years were a rollercoaster ride of weight loss and gain. I tried different diets and medications but nothing I did changed the glucose numbers.
On January 1st, 2024, we left for Mexico for a month with a low/no carb diet from a functional nutritionist and a resolve to follow it strictly for the 30 days we were there. Still no results! I just couldn’t get over the hump and was still on the meds.
While in Mexico, courtesy of the internet, I found a functional medicine doctor in Florida that specialized in reversing Type 2 diabetes. Exactly what my regular doctors were saying couldn’t be done. We communicated via phone/internet and came to an agreement to start as soon as I returned home in February. He told me he had a 95% success rate with patients that followed the program, and he told me type 2 diabetes was a symptom not a disease!
Well after extensive testing of blood, saliva and stool, this doctor concluded that I had a couple of nasty bacteria in my digestive tract. He told me the bacteria was causing chronic inflammation, and the chronic inflammation was causing my diabetes. The bacteria were affecting most of my internal organs and inflammation was out of control. One of the bacteria was an oral streptococcus that had taken up residence in my intestines. He told me if you have type 2 diabetes, then there is something going on in your body and diabetes is a symptom of it. Of course, my regular doctors never even checked for anything like that. That is when I learned that if your doctor prescribes you a drug without asking you about your diet and exercise, he or she is a drug pusher, not a doctor.
We agreed on an initial 6-month protocol which began as soon as we returned, the first week of February. He said it wouldn’t be easy, and it would require changing my life style forever. I told him it was better than having body parts removed or losing my eyesight. The protocol was all based on diet and supplements targeting the deficiencies found in the extensive testing. He supplied everything I needed to follow the protocols. Thankfully what I needed to eat on the diet was exactly what I liked to eat except for the poisonous foods I had to cut out of my diet.
It was amazing, the pounds started to fall off and my clothes all had to be replaced. I was physically changing right before Joyce’s eyes! It was weird, I could feel things moving around internally, like they were falling back into place. Four months in, June 8th, 2024, I took my last shot of insulin! That was one of the high points of my life, there was no turning back, never.
There were six protocols and one week into protocol 6, December 8th, 2024, I became diabetes free and took my last dose of Metformin. After 18 years of being told I would have to live with diabetes and just manage it, I had a normal A1c test for two months in a row. I will never go back! All these years my regular doctors never asked me about my diet or ran any test other than the standard lipid panel.
So, what is the point of all this rambling? I am on a crusade to tell my story and to help anyone who needs or wants to reverse their Type 2 diabetes or other symptoms that are chronic. It is not easy, but it is doable, I am living proof, and I hope to help expose the lies.
I am now the same weight as when I played football my junior year at Ogemaw Heights high school and now wear size 38 pants, down from size 50 at my highest. I feel wonderful and have energy to spare. My journey has opened my eyes to the corruption of the food, drug and medical industries. It makes me angry that our medical system will push prescriptions before looking into the root cause of a health problem. We just need to take control of our own body, and it will heal itself. God designed the body to heal! So, to make a longer story short, this has been a real education, literally, I have gone back to school right along with the healing. I have attained the necessary education to help others, along with their primary health care professional or a functional medicine doctor, become free of Type 2 diabetes and other symptoms.
