Peyton Ankrum

My name is Peyton Ankrum and I am a sophomore at the College of Charleston. I am majoring in Psychology and Business Administration with a minor in Neuroscience. I am motivated to advance financial literacy among women in a predominantly male-dominated industry and advocate for mental health. My aspiration is to work as a psychiatrist with individuals who have recently completed rehabilitation and to be at the forefront of developing transitional antidepressants. Specifically ones that would alleviate patients struggling with mental health issues without the side effects of depersonalization and emotional detachment. By obtaining double degrees in Psychology and Business I believe I can best understand my patient’s experiences (in pursuit of being a psychiatrist) while also having the financial comprehension needed to understand the intricacies of the pharmaceutical industry. Psi Chi is the largest world-wide honor society – and the largest student psychological organization in the world.

• Current President of The College of Charleston's Psi Chi Chapter, overseeing 800+ members, including alumni. Representing the Psychology department as a role model for current and future psychology majors. Leading chapter members in defining and pursuing goals, and delegating responsibilities to ensure active member involvement.
• Managing local and Society-wide resources, establishing regular meeting times, and coordinating induction ceremonies for new members.
• Planning and overseeing the Philanthropy Project, fundraising, and volunteering with Darkness to Light, an organization addressing childhood sexual abuse.
