PEYTON WAGNER

Davis,CA

Summary

Fourth-year UC Davis veterinary student with strong interests in Internal Medicine and Cardiology. My training emphasizes precision, careful clinical reasoning, and attention to detail, strengthened through my work in the VMTH Pharmacy and my research in diagnostic accuracy and predictive modeling. I am committed to accessible, team-oriented patient care, shaped by my experience coordinating care at the Covelo spectrum-of-care clinic. I am seeking a rotating internship to further develop a solid foundation for future specialization in Internal Medicine or Cardiology.

RESEARCH EXPERIENCE

Veterinary Research Assistant

UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine and Colorado State University — Department of Medicine & Epidemiology
Mentor: Krystle L. Reagan, DVM, PhD, DACVIM, FACVIM
May 2024 – Present
Focus on development of clinically relevant, machine-learning–assisted diagnostic tools and antimicrobial stewardship strategies in small-animal urinary tract disease.

• Extract and prepare multi-year EMR datasets for analysis and model development
• Standardize clinical and laboratory variables and ensure dataset integrity
• Perform descriptive statistics
• Interpret ROC curves, feature importance, and model performance metrics
• Contribute to poster figures, scientific communication, and manuscript writing

Prediction of Antimicrobial-Resistant Escherichia coli Bacteriuria in Dogs Using Clinical and Urinalysis Variables

Poster presented at ACVIM Forum — June 19, 2025

Research Summary:
Study evaluating whether routinely collected clinical data and urinalysis parameters can predict amoxicillin-resistant E. coli bacteriuria in dogs, supporting improved antimicrobial stewardship and early diagnostic decision-making.
• Conducted descriptive analyses to support variable selection and modeling
• Assisted with ROC interpretation and clinically meaningful threshold evaluation
• Designed figures and contributed to presentation of results

Diagnostic Differentiation of Feline Idiopathic Cystitis and Urinary Tract Infection in Cats With LUTS Using Machine-Learning Models

Poster presented at ACVIM Forum — June 19, 2025
Manuscript in preparation (Primary Author)

Research Summary:
Project assessing whether machine-learning models can distinguish FIC from UTI in cats with lower urinary tract signs using UA findings, culture results, and clinical history, with the goal of reducing unnecessary antibiotic use and improving diagnostic accuracy.

• Compiled and harmonized multi-year LUTS datasets including UA and culture results
• Performed data diagnostics and structured variables for model training
• Interpreted model errors with emphasis on clinical relevance
• Leading manuscript drafting (methods, results, discussion)
