Some fifteen years or so, Forsyth County Parks and Recreation opened a new park called Sawnee Mountain. I had the opportunity to participate in the formation of the new Sawnee Mountain Panthers Football Association as an officer. Several youth football teams at all the various age groups were being developed, outfitted with the necessary equipment, staffed with the quality volunteers to encourage our athletes, raise funds and find sponsors for this new program. As Volunteer League Commissioner of FCYFA Phil Bourque is the individual that encouraged me to step up and participate and provided the guidance I and the other officers needed to build the foundation for a great program.

I can honestly say that Phil Bourque's knowledge, management expertise and get it done attitude was instrumental in helping this county's youth football program become a success. I have worked alongside Phil as a volunteer at various levels and times and have always found him to be a leader, honest, sincere and organized.

Over the years I have seen Phil make some very tough decisions and he always placed our children's safety first and those of the overall county program a close second.

Being a leader in our community, especially the Volunteer League Commissioner of Forsyth County Youth Football Association, is mostly a thankless job and at times is overwhelming and lonely. I for one want to thank Phil for his efforts to improve the quality of life for the youth of our county while helping to build the leaders of tomorrow.
