Detroit Recovery Project (10/01/18 – 09/01/20)
I have a deep passion for the city of Detroit and its communities. During my time at the Detroit Recovery Project (DRP), I had the privilege of contributing to the organization’s mission to strengthen and empower communities affected by substance abuse and other challenges faced by under-served populations. DRP is dedicated to helping individuals break free from the barriers that prevent them from living healthy, drug-free lives, and I was honored to play a role in this transformative process.

As a mentor, I worked closely with at-risk youth from Detroit’s inner-city neighborhoods—many of whom grew up in environments where substance abuse was prevalent. I dedicated myself to motivating and empowering these young individuals, encouraging them to channel their talents and passions toward positive, life-affirming goals. Through this experience, I learned as much from the youth I mentored as I did from the opportunity itself, gaining invaluable insights into resilience, empathy, and community-building.

Contributing to the growth and safety of my community through meaningful relationships and positive interventions has been both rewarding and humbling. My work with the Detroit Recovery Project has been a vital stepping stone in shaping my future aspirations, fueling my ongoing commitment to making a lasting impact in underserved communities.
