First Author Abstract - "Possible Treatment Approach for Retinitis Pigmentosa Targetting Inhibition of PTEN in the PI3K-Akt Signaling Pathway" - The Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology - ARVO (January 2024)

  • Literature review proposing targeting phosphatase and tensin homolog deleted on chromosome 10 (PTEN) within the Akt pathway in holding the potential for treating retinitis pigmentosa (RP). It analyzes murine models using Bisperoxovanadium (bpV) and Rasagiline to investigate the shared apoptotic pathway in rod photoreceptors implicated in RP and retinal detachment (RD).

  • Gathered, arranged, and addressed the literature gap regarding official procedures for pain management during intrauterine device implantation (IUD) in a scoping review format.

  • Examined the pathological response of mice tissues to inflammatory biomaterial implants, focusing on the analysis of fibrosis thickness and the infiltration of specific cell types to implanted devices. Further analysis of the use of antioxidants coatings in implanted biomaterial in reducing inflammatory body response.
  • Involved in the project of genetically selecting mice with a specific genotype that allowed for the study of the role of Endothelin-1 (ET-1) in the collecting duct. The Cre-Lox technique was the method used to promote ET-1 gene knockout in order to understand its role in regulating salt and water homeostasis.
  • DNA separation from mice tails, PCR and gel-electrophoresis were techniques employed in selecting the mice genotypes for the study.
