  • As a resident, on my away elective at the Cleveland Clinic Main Campus, I spent 2 weeks each, in the liver ICU and Pulmonary Primary Service
  • Coming from a community program, we usually refer Acute Liver Failure, and ACLF patients to the Main Campus for transplant evaluation, but being on the receiving end for 2 weeks, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams provided me valuable perspective on how a patient is evaluated and managed at a major medical center
  • Working closely with a PCCM fellow, learning about Pulmonary Hypertension, ILD, reviewing the POCUS images and calculations with them, troubleshooting and learning about various respiratory devices from respiratory techs, specifically polished my Pulmonary and critical care skills

  • Immersed in a high stake environment, I honed my proficiency in a wide range of ultrasound techniques which included abdominal aorta, kidney, and spleen, exploring deep veins of the limbs, and rotator cuff imaging to name a few
  • This elective also allowed me to improve my abilities in cardiopulmonary and resuscitative ultrasound, which are crucial for critical care scenarios
  • Learning from seasoned attendings of the emergency department, I gained in depth understanding of ultrasound's role in accurate patient assessment and management in Pulmonary and critical care scenarios

  • I visited my village back in India this past year
  • I, in collaboration with a local provider and 3 nurses, conducted a 3 day, free of cost, medical camp for the village residents

  • Along with the above, we also covered a month's supply of antihypertensive and anti diabetic medications for those in need
  • We saw approximately 300 patients during the course of 3 days and also provided them with proper referral guidance
  • Most Meaningful - Organizing a free health check up camp in my village, with an aim to do it yearly, helped me enhance my clinical skills, understand the local disease prevalence, foster community health, and to demonstrate social responsibility, which I hope, impacted and continues to impact the village residents

  • I undertook the challenge of training the beginner level batches which included players of all ages
  • My role was to take 2 batches a day, one in the morning and one in the evening with a goal to teach the players, the traditional racket holding grip, ball tosses, racket swing, and would later feed them the balls over the net in order for them to hit the ball in a technically sound manner
  • This journey, which spanned about 7-8 months, deepened my appreciation for the game, and later enhanced my ability to communicate, inspire, teach and develop others in a game that I am good at
