Professor Powell brings advanced teaching skills and department leadership experience in both academic and studio settings. She is goal-oriented with desires to advance the department she works in, strives to improve her teaching methods and modernize her course offerings. She has an extensive background in research and university fundraising. She has been a committed educator and offers engaging dance technique instruction. She is mindful of DEIA and provides a safe learning environment for all who come to learn, choreograph, and perform. She brings exceptional lecturing skills and expertise in dance history and hip hop dance history to dual enrolled students, new college students and returning students. She is gifted in engagement and guidance of students and has with over 20 years in postsecondary education. Her work is organized and she is a dependable candidate who has a record of being successful at managing multiple priorities with a positive attitude. Her willingness to take on added responsibilities to meet team goals has helped build relationships across the campuses that she has worked for. She aspires to seek a position that offers professional challenges utilizing interpersonal skills, excellent time management and problem-solving skills.

Performed and toured nationally with the Oakland Ballet Company.
Performed locally at the Paramount Theater in principal roles as a ballerina.
Oakland Ballet is recognized for reconstruction works such as Bolero, Rite of Spring, Green Table, Les Sylphides and many more legendary and iconic choreographic works.
As a seasoned performing artist, l worked closely with the legendary choreographer Donald McKayle. Currently l am the principal interpreteur of the “Legacy” since his passing. I have staged over 20 dances nationally and internationally. He created several dances for me personally which have been performed in conferences, festivals and award ceremonies honoring Professor McKayle.
