Work History

Research Associate

Hospital For Special Surgery
New York, NY
11.2016 - Current
  • Translational Study Experience

Project goal - Identifying and developing therapeutic targets for treatment of knee fibrosis and osteoarthritis.

  • Designed patient sample collection strategy based on study requirement, supervised collection process and work as a part of the team that manages sample collection, processing and selecting appropriate samples for translational studies.
  • Optimized protocols to isolate stromal cells, RNA and DNA from various tissues,( for example adipose tissue, synovium, blood and cartilage).
  • Designed flow panels and optimized protocols to characterize cells by flow cytometry.
  • Designed, executed and troubleshooted cell and molecular assays.
  • Prepared sample for Next Generation Sequencing
  • Analyzed data generated from sequencing and other cell and molecular assays.
  • Performed histological analysis of tissues using various staining techniques.
  • Coordinated with bioinformatics team to determine timeline for data generation and data analysis discussion.
  • Designed and performed studies using animal models to understand osteoarthritis disease progression and contribution of fibrosis in disease progression.
  • Supervised and trained junior research staff
  • Helped research staff in analyzing data and troubleshooting technical protocols.
  • Gathered, arranged and corrected research data to create representative graphs and charts highlighting results for presentations
  • Streamlined research processes to meet tight deadlines for multiple projects

* Translational projects led to publication of 2 peer reviewed manuscript, one review paper, one book chapter and filed one provisional patent as a co-investigator.

Post Doctoral Fellow

Princeton University
Princeton, NJ
09.2008 - 07.2014

Project goal - Understanding role of extracellular matrix in maintaining self renewal and differentiation of stem cells.

  • Worked extensively with stem cells ( embryonic and adult stem cells)
  • Optimized protocols for culturing ( both 2D and 3D cultures) and differentiating stem cells.
  • Generated protocols to study interaction of extracellular matrix with stem cells and role of extracellular matrix in governing stem cell fate.
  • Developed expertise in recombinant and plasma protein extraction and purification.
  • Completed analysis of data acquired from research and verified careful documentation of information.
  • Attended research seminars and collegiate meetings to discover and discuss new technologies and research.

* These studies led to 2 peer reviewed manuscripts, one book chapter and one peer reviewed review paper.

Doctoral Candidate

Albany Medical College
Albany, NY
09.2001 - 08.2008

Project goal - Understanding role of cell surface integrin during wound healing using conditional knockout mouse model.

  • Worked with transgenic mouse model.
  • Used skin knockout mice to study wound healing process and understanding interaction of cell surface receptor and extracellular matrix.
  • Characterized polyclonal antibody and optimizing protocols for affinity purification of antibodies.

* This led to publication of 3 peer reviewed publications
