Summary

I have been working in IT and its associated technologies for a long time across a variety of industries including banking and finance, hedge funds, education, bitcoin and blockchain technologies, including the design of the front and back ends for Bitcoin ATMs.

More recently, I worked in real estate associated sectors and currently I am part of the core development team for a web based management system for construction equipment rental companies.

I’ve kept up with the latest technologies, using personal “hobby” projects. I’ve become somewhat proficient in Python, the .Net platform, C++, SQL, and others. I can work with Figma and Photoshop. I’m familiar with VCS such as Git, API design using SwaggerHub, component design with Storybook, e2e testing with Playwright, containers, and CI/CD workflows.

I’m looking for a position that will allow me to expand my skill set.

  • Rouse Services created a web application that was used by 1500 construction equipment rental business clients and by large scale construction companies to manage their fleets by tracking inventory and providing a large suite of analytics about its value.
  • I worked on building new features in Angular, maintaining legacy C# code, and transforming Product and Design’s specs into easily accessible web components.

  • CoStar provided off-campus housing listing and rental web apps that would integrate into their 300 university clients' existing sites, matching style and typography to provide a seamless experience for a student seeking housing.
  • I worked on building components for both the property managers and the students to stream line the entire process of finding, vesting, renting, and managing the apartments.
  • The site was written in PHP and Angular, where Angular was replacing much of the legacy PHP code. The backend API was C# using the .NET Framework. We used Git repositories

  • 3lb Games, although primarily an online game developer had a client in the education sector whose needs couldn't be satisfied by the existing developers. They hired me to create an application for teachers of early grade students to teach and grade basic skills.
  • I used Angular to build the site, basing the UI/UX on the paper forms that were standard for this level.
  • As the product was being developed and reviewed by the educators, they were able to see where the original design was not translating into an on-screen version. We worked with them to constantly modify the look and feel until they were satisfied that it was going to be both easy for students to use and comprehensive enough for teachers to get good metrics.

Software Dev Philosophy

Creating web site software is fairly straightforward once the specs are delivered.  It’s creating the UI/UX that allows users to get their work done that is more difficult.  I’ve learned that if a user can’t sit in front of an application and use it the first time seeing it, then it’s failing that user.  It’s hard for a developer to think like a user so I’ve done my best to do so and work closely with Design, Product, and end users to ensure it.
