I am a rising sophomore from Lincoln Nebraska majoring in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology with a minor in Biomathematics, on the pre medical track. I am extremely motivated and eager to get involved with research, in order to deepen my understanding of the field and gain valuable experience for medical school. In addition to this as an extracurricular, I am involved in volunteering in both Lincoln and San Antonio, FCA, Varsity Soccer, and the Writing Center here on campus. Any possible opportunity or opening in a lab I would be interested in pursuing, so please do not hesitate to email or call with any information. Thank you for your consideration!
Starting this fall semester, I will be a STEM writing specialist in the writing center. This will give me a great opportunity to help other students improve their papers, lab reports, or research presentations, while also helping to perfect my own skills.
This summer in preparation for my future in medical school, I was able to set up and shadow multiple doctors. This was extremely valuable, as seeing into the daily duties of the physicians, and what their responsibilities and routines look like has given me lots of insight about how I can best prepare to be successful in that field, and also which specialty within medicine I would like to pursue. I accumulated over 140 hours of shadowing throughout this summer, coving the specialties of neurology, neurosurgery, radiology, plastic surgery, medical oncology, cardiology, cardiothoracic surgery, anesthesiology, general surgery, orthopedic and spinal surgery, otolaryngology, and internal medicine.
I have been a volunteer at Bryan Health Hospital here in Lincoln for the past 2 years, accumulating over 90 hours of volunteer experience over that time span. In the past I helped as a Wayfinder, navigating patients and materials around the hospital and pushing wheelchairs, and in nutrition services where I prepared meals and necessary dining materials for patients with dietary restrictions. Most recently this summer I worked in the Emergency Department, where I assist patients in any way that they need to make them more comfortable, and also prepare rooms once they have been vacated for new patients.
This summer, again in preparation for medical school and to gain clinical experience, I received a 40 hour training and testing for my CMA license, as well as CPR certification. This will allow me to engage in patients in the hospital and nursing home setting and provide lots to patient interaction potential. In this job I will ensure each patient receives the their medication at the correct time and dosage, and will be responsible for administering that medication to the patient safely.
