Work History

Relief Engineer

Chevron
06.2024 - Current
  • Lead cost-effective, compliance driven project executions through strategic collaboration with Operations and other stakeholders.
  • Integrated field walks to refine project scope leading to significant cost savings including $2MM reduction for a piping project.
  • Led relief scoping for a new Ethyl Mercaptan Drum and completed dispersion modeling for atmospheric relieving as well as obtained two waivers against standards to reduce project costs by $2MM.
  • Assisted Unit Engineer to place a non-condensable vent in the Vapor Recovery Unit to minimize benzene at the fenceline.
  • Developed proficiency in overpressure evaluations, PSPPM software, and the interpretation of API, ASME, and other industry standards.
  • Fostered leadership and community engagement on the Women's Employee Network Leadership Team to bring in a speaker for an event.

Area Engineer

Chevron
01.2023 - 06.2024
  • Mentored four Process Engineers to support their development in process and hydraulic modeling, field engagement, and confined space entry.
  • Nominated and served as the site Competency Process Lead, where I developed the Process Engineering training plan, posted training materials, and co-developed the R&R matrix.
  • Received the Continuous Improvement Champion Award for managing a portfolio of $15MM/year between OPEX reduction and Gross Margin Improvement.
  • Process Lead for the High Sulfur Fuel Oil Project to allow for continuous blending of heavy oil and LCO during a turnaround period leading to $6MM in lost opportunity avoidance.
  • Process Lead for the Jet Hydrotreater Debottleneck Project to capture $7.5MM/year in Gross Margin Improvement, which included developing process models in PROII and Hysys, analyzing tower internals with Sulzer, conducting a fired heater study with GST Southern, and utilizing Seeq with Strategy and Planning on economic evaluations.
  • Developed a Crude 1 Overhead Corrosion monitoring dashboard and led weekly cross-functional meeting to manage temporary limit exceedances, mitigating atmospheric furnace fouling and ensuring continuous operations until the unit turnaround.

Process Engineer - Crude 1

Chevron
08.2022 - 01.2023
  • Led night shift Process Engineering for the Fall 2022 online decoking of the atmospheric furnace as well as startup and shutdown for the 2024 Crude 1 turnaround.
  • Evaluated clay in the Jet Merox Unit to extend the run length by triple the time.
  • Spearheaded a black diesel process investigation and determined the root cause of a bundle leak as well as developed an isolation plan and relief mitigation for the bundle.
  • Leveraged Process Controls knowledge to recommend replacement of a LLMUX card to lower skin temperature by 100 DEGF, which was limiting transfer temperature. This resulted in a 5 degree increase in transfer temperature worth $40M/day in cutpoint improvements.
  • Selected to assist with Operations New Hire traning to teach on Distillation in the Crude 1 Unit.
  • Developed Fathom model to route jet through clay treaters in offline unit and increase refinery jet throughput capacity.

Project Engineer

CP Systems
10.2021 - 08.2022
  • Traveled to various 3M sites for project scoping and development, engaging in site walks, laser scanning, and PID updates.
  • Conducted hydraulic modeling, compiled construction packages, and supported troubleshooting efforts across sites.
  • Revamped a saltwater piping circuit for a sponge-making process and conducted a full tank walkthrough to complete a comprehensive overhaul of all tankfield P&IDs, making the PSI documentation clearer and accurate.

Process Controls Engineer

Marathon Petroleum Corp
02.2020 - 10.2021
  • Assisted in full refinery upgrade from TDC3000 to C300 including implementation and post startup troubleshooting.
  • Collaborated with Console Operators to troubleshoot system glitches, revamp unit graphics, and resolve issues caused by overloaded displays following the conversion to C300.
  • Fixed a PLC communication issue, which was not allowing Operations to put the Alky compressor spillback in manual without closing the spillback.
  • Successfully implemented a new Advanced Process Controller in the Alkyalation Unit.
  • Obtained Crude Unit Console Operator qualification during the 2021 Union contract negotiations.

Process Engineer

Marathon Petroleum Corp
01.2017 - 02.2020
  • Unit Process Engineer for Utitilites (2017), CCR/Hydrotreating (2017-2018), Crude/Vacuum/FGR (2018-2020)
  • Lead Engineer for the Isomerization Unit Turnaround, which included a major project to revamp the unit to Penex Operations and restore full isomerization capability.
  • Solved a years long problem by recommending to lower the hydrogen recycle in the CCR, allowing the Regen to stay online, leading to increased C5+ yield.
  • Conducted a study to recommend idling the Benzene Saturation Unit due to poor economics with benzene credit pricing.
  • Developed a model and scope to increase throughput to the Hydrobon Naphtha Hydrotreating Unit.
  • Served as Lead Process Engineer for scoping and execution of an emergency Crude Unit Pitstop to restore column internals after an overpressure event damaged half of the Atmospheric Column.
  • Led a multifunctional team to troubleshoot and identify root cause of major corrosion in FGR piping due to pooling of liquids.
  • Served as Process Engineer Lead for the PHA and LOPA studies for the CCR and Naphtha Hydrotreating Units.
  • Mentored three first term co-ops.
