Teacher of the Year, Anson Jones Elementary, Dallas Independent School District, 1991

As a young and energetic SLP, I was able to integrate literature and theater skills into my student's different therapies allowing them opportunities to showcase their newly learned skills while courageously performing in front of peers, teachers and family members.  Many of my students also entered the school science fair and did behavioral studies on their own speech/language areas of need, resulting in high performance awards and exposure in the newspaper for their accomplishments.  As a result of my caseload's accomplishments, I was voted as Teacher of the Year by the Faculty of Anson Jones Elementary, which at the time had 1,300 lower socio-economical students in south Dallas.
