Work History

Health Program Specialist

State of Nevada
08.2016 - Current
    • Plan, develop, implement and evaluate emergency and healthcare-related preparedness services and activities as part of the Public Health Preparedness Program. There was a focus on the Nevada State Trauma Registry and the Nevada State Volunteer Pool. However, I also provided assistance in other areas, such as Nevada Crisis Standards of Care, Nevada Volunteer Plan, and Statewide Continuity of Operations Plans. Among the tasks performed in this role are conducting research and analyzing health data and statistics, developing goals, objectives, program requirements, and procedures; and providing technical assistance regarding specialized conditions related to health.
    • In addition to engaging with community partners, I participate in several committees, advisory boards, and work groups, including, but not limited to, the Committee for Emergency Medical Services for Children, Nevada Trauma Board, Nevada Resiliency Committee, All Hazard Mitigation Committee, and Office for Traffic Safety. Educating, detecting, and tracking Nevada-specific data are all part of public health preparedness. Nevada Trauma Registry data is used to produce annual national and state trauma reports. Comparing registry data with research data and other health statistics results in recommendations for program expansion, resource allocation, and at-risk population interventions.
    • In collaboration with the Public Health Preparedness Team, identified objectives, protocols, and procedures for assigned health programs; developed performance indicators and benchmarks to evaluate program effectiveness and achieve desired outcomes; established quality assurance measures to ensure adherence to federal, agency, or other standards and guidelines; defined program eligibility requirements and approved reimbursements for services. To accomplish this, outreach strategies were developed; community outreach was developed in collaboration with community members and other public and private services and groups; information was promoted through noted committees and Public Health Preparedness represented on advisory boards to promote awareness and network with special interest groups.
    • Provided technical advice and consultation to external partners and community stakeholders on the Public Health Preparedness program. Program activities were monitored to ensure compliance with regulations, policies, procedures, and parameters. In addition to providing information and education about Public Health Preparedness, we also prepared public service announcements, press releases, and legislative testimony.
    • Preparation of funding requests for the Nevada Trauma Registry. It included the application, acceptance, and necessary documentation for Trauma Registry funding for the 23/24 and 24/25 funding years. In addition to writing and amending program descriptions and obtaining necessary financial data, I assisted managerial staff in monitoring expenditures, developing budgets, and preparing grant applications. Among other responsibilities, I participated in planning future funding cycles and needs assessments; I prepared and administered agreements and contracts; and I wrote and submitted narrative and statistical reports.
    • This position supports and staffs the Emergency Support Function 8, Public Health desk at the Emergency Operations Center. As part of this effort, callbacks are required during emergencies, ongoing coordination, and engagement with community partners for resource exchange. The ability to manage time between ongoing daily tasks and emergency tasks to support Emergency Support Functions is also required.
    • Supervised one clerical staff member in my position. Overseeing timesheets, reviewing reviews, counseling sessions, and reviewing staff needs are all part of this process.

Social Services Program Specialist 2

State Of Nevada
08.2014 - 08.2016
  • Managed a pilot program with the Division of Health Care Financing and Policy for the most vulnerable populations of the State. Rural Nevada Medicaid patients who were not eligible for Managed Care Organizations (MCOs) were eligible for the Care Management Organization (CMO) program. Without membership in an MCO, they were unable to access the assistance others received when navigating healthcare. It was my responsibility to monitor the CMO vendor executing the pilot program. I ensured they were effective, efficient, and compliant with program requirements.
  • Designed monitoring instruments; developed and monitored management information reports; conducted on-site reviews of program operations, management practices, and financial records; identified problem areas, summarized findings, and developed corrective action plans.
  • Supported program staff with technical assistance. Assisted with inquiries and requests for information from agency management, employees, other government agencies, community representatives, government officials, media representatives, attorneys, and the general public. Completed surveys, resolved complaints and drafted correspondence for managers, administrators, and officials; interpreted federal and state regulations.
  • Conducting research, compiling and analyzing data, writing comprehensive reports, and developing recommendations was done to provide administration with needed information.
  • Establishing and monitoring operating budgets for programs to ensure funds are spent appropriately and according to program objectives and goals; developing annual budgets, allocating funds among program offices, and monitoring revenue and expenditures and making recommendations for funding adjustments.
  • Travel throughout the state with CMO Vendor to assist with educational outreach and serve as a spokesperson for the program.
  • Program personnel and community groups were contacted and met frequently to promote program goals. Hosting workshops and writing press releases and public service announcements.
  • As part of the SSPS2 position and internal team, we developed training programs, analyzed and researched training needs, evaluated models, developed curriculum, materials, and methods, set schedules, conducted sessions, and evaluated and updated curriculum.
  • Provided technical guidance to service providers within the state; explained policies, procedures and applicable regulations.
  • Streamlined processes and adopted innovative strategies to improve program efficiency; managed multiple projects successfully through effective collaboration with stakeholders; and engaged stakeholders by developing targeted communication materials.
