Rada Vovk

This is an event which takes place in the Polish Club, on the 22nd St, San Francisco, CA 94110. Ukrainians, Polish people and others gather together to watch Ukrainian movies to support the production. My job is to come before the invent and set up tables, keep the environment clean, orient people and sell products such as Ukrainian Paintings and Candles. In 2023 I have made a calendar for year 2024, and sold them at this events as well. 45% of the total profit from each bussines we donate to the Ukrainian army, to buy things like bulletproof vests, aid kits, sleeping bags, etc. So basically we don't get a lot of profit from this, because from the 55% you also have to include the production expenses and gas. But I do it not for the money, but to support my community. Ukrainian cinematography has a lot of potential, but before it will make us money, we need to invest our time, energy and recourses.

I worked at the small business called Charivna Switchka", which in translation from Ukrainian means "Magic Candle". My work was to produce and mainly deliver candles. According to the Chinese lunar calendar, December 2020 was the year of rat, so in November 2019 we got an order from the restaurant "Chasing Two Hares" for 200 candles in the shape of rats. While working on this order I got better at following the schedule, because I was balancing school, production and delivery of candles, and if I have procrastinated it would cause certain problems. I worked there for a couple of years and this experience defiantly taught me a lot. Some candles were not allowed to be shipped by regular post office, because it could've damaged them, so I was meeting with client one on one. This improved my communication skills and helped me overcome fear of meeting with new people.
