As my first job, I was given a lot of responsibility, which set the stage and provided me with the skills and preparation to succeed in any environment. A solo surgeon in a small town with a major highway going through had to care for many types of patients, including trauma and many other conditions, with minimal resources. I was also given the task to start from the ground up a surgical clinic that was started literally in a trailer and nowadays is a large multi-specialty clinic.
