I’m an experienced carpenter with years of practical skills developed on the job, even though I didn’t finish high school. I’ve always taken pride in my work and have put in a lot of effort to learn and grow in this trade. However, after an accident, I’ve had to face some physical limitations that affect my ability to perform certain tasks.
Recently, I went through a Functional Capacity Evaluation (FCE) to assess my physical abilities. The evaluation determined that I’m currently best suited for a “Sedentary Physical Demand” level. This means I can still handle certain tasks, like lifting up to 10 pounds and pushing or pulling small loads, but I need to be mindful of my physical limits. I can do some occasional reaching above my shoulders, and I’m able to alternate between sitting and standing as needed. However, I’ve been advised to avoid repetitive bending, sustained kneeling, and working on ladders to avoid putting too much strain on myself. I am also limited to only speaking spanish.
Even with these limitations, I’m committed to my work as a carpenter. I’m determined to find ways to continue contributing and doing what I love within the boundaries of my current abilities.
