Every year the Multimedia Design program at Westside Tech prepares students to become cross-media designers. Although every student is different, they bring into the class different skills and abilities that are distinctive which translate into a unique and diverse group that can help each other. The project presented is an illustration that started with a simple sketch and was enhanced by explaining to students how to use Adobe Illustrator tools to give it a professional look even though the drawing itself was not as good as expected. This is an important lesson as many students struggle with drawing and it gives them the confidence and practice to maximize their abilities in any drawing. As part of the class, the design was printed on a t-shirt for each member of the group, and when the rest of the technical school students started seeing Multimedia students wearing the t-shirts, everyone wanted to have one, soon afterward our program asked for authorization to produce and sell. All entries were used to grant the cost of books for students in financial need.
