• Provides care to male adult clients with cancer and other related medical-surgical cases in a 19-bed capacity unit with isolation room.
• Performs comprehensive and systematic nursing assessment, diagnosis, planning, interventions, and evaluations; and modification of nursing care plan as necessary.
• Provides care to clients before and after antineoplastic treatment (e.g. chemotherapy, immunotherapy, radio-active iodine therapy) and diagnostic procedures (e.g. PET scan, endoscopy, colonoscopy, ultrasound -guided biopsy)
• Provides pre-operative and post-operative care and teachings to clients who will receive surgical treatment
• Performs primary nursing care such as pain management, incontinence management, bathing, turning, lifting, and ambulating.
• Administers antineoplastic agents, blood products, medications,
intravenous fluids, enteral feedings, and enemas.
• Performs blood sampling and suctioning; intravenous catheter, urinary catheter insertions; tracheostomy care, ventilator care, wound care, and colostomy care.
• Assists physicians during rounds and bedside procedures.
• Acts as patients’ advocate.
• Observe infection control measures.
• Attends educational workshops and reviews professional publications for clinical advancement.
• Collaborates with physicians and members of interdisciplinary team; Updates and reports changes on client’s status to the healthcare provider.
• Maintains accurate and detailed documentations.
• Teaches and supervises new nurses and student nurses; and gives opportunities for learning.
• Assumes Charge Nurse duties - Supervises and evaluates the care given by 2-3 Nurses, with a nurse-patient ratio of 1:5, depending on the clients’ acuity; Utilizes clinical judgement and problem solving skills; Facilitates diagnostic tests and procedures to be done during the shift; Handles and regulates narcotic and controlled medications in the unit; Manages crash cart and routinely checks defibrillator; Supervises nurses’ documentations and ensures physicians’ orders are applicable to the patient’s condition and are carried out; Communicates with physicians and members of interdisciplinary team about patients’ status; Coordinates with inter-hospital departments to ensure an organized and a systematic operation of the unit; Assigns patients to incoming shift’s nurses according to experience and competency; Reports and gives updates to the Unit Manager.
