I am a passionate, blind college student offering experience in Spanish translation, event planning, and communication and education on disability and the importance of accessibility. Focused on helping individuals work through problems and grow as believers through providing education, making materials available in different languages, and creating an inclusive space where everyone feels valued. I am dedicated to ensuring that everyone has equal access to materials that will allow them to be involved in their community.
In this position, I oversee all of the subcommittees that makeup the Cross-Cultural Committee. I plan and host training seminars for Directors and Assistant Directors, work with campus-wide event planning, and oversee the work of the Directors of the Cross-Cultural Committee as a whole.
During my time as a Southern Ambassador, I have given tours of Birmingham Southern College's campus, assisting in showing prospective students the college and all,it has to offer.
As a Bonner, I work with those inside and outside of the Birmingham Southern Community to increase civic engagement and inclusivity. I have volunteered and written curriculums for McCoy Adult Daycare, served food to those experiencing homelessness at Highlands United Methodist Church, assisted in making Highlands UMC's programming more LGBTQ* inclusive, became an ambassador for Hand in Paw, and assisted people in gaining access to their IDs and birth certificates at Church of the Reconciler.
Along with taking full responsibility of the elementary aged students I worked with, I also oversaw the actions of other counselors, as well as serving as the primary contact for parents.
As the founder and Director of Birmingham Southern's Committee for Disability Awareness, I have worked alongside the Cross-Cultural Committee to highlight and showcase the diversity on BSC's campus by hosting educational events that pus. I do this by bringing in speakers who discuss the importance of disability in an educational setting and in the workplace, as well as hosting events that educate the community on disability awareness.
As a camp counselor, I worked alongside 2-3 other counselors during an 8 week summer ca,p program. I worked with students from the ages of 3-13, with a primary focus on students who were in elementary school.
