Summary

Skilled Paramedic with over fifteen years of field experience. I previously worked on an ambulance in a busy 9-1-1 system from 2002-2020 . I had the privilege of being apart of the field training program in San Joaquin county for 13 years prior to starting my career with Donor Network West.Training employees, and aspiring paramedic's was important to me. Helping others become more confident and skilled is not just important, its absolutely necessary, and I was privileged to be apart of American Medical Responses training program. During my time at American Medical Response I also worked as a part time supervisor where I was given the opportunity to broaden my understanding of EMS from a management stand point. In 2020 I began working for Donor Network West as a Clinical Procurement Coordinator, which has expanded all areas of my clinical skill set and knowledge in health care. It is an honor and a privilege to be apart of the work that we do. I have grown in my knowledge of the job, and reach for learning opportunities any chance that I get. I have been apart of several work groups including one currently that is aiming to improve efficiency for clinical staff and daily work flow to improve work environment and case outcomes. After my first year working for Donor Network West, I took on the responsibility of mentoring and training new staff through precepting, a roll that I remain passionate about. I believe that a preceptor should be someone who fosters not only knowledge but confidence, and over time being able to see a trainee grow in both areas is a point of pride. When we teach others, we are are throwing stones of knowledge, experience, humility, compassion, and passion into a pond; the changes seen ripple across the organization, and I am proud to be apart of that.

  • The role of preceptor is one that I am particularly passionate about. I believe it is of the upmost importance to have a strong clinical training team. I love mentoring new staff and precepting is something I take very seriously. I believe that anyone who finds their way to the OPO world, starts their journey in a place of overwhelm. Overwhelmed with information, new responsibility's and procedures , as well as possibly a new work environment for those who come to us from out of hospital rolls previously. Each trainee comes to us with skills, strengths and weaknesses. Through the journey of orientation we get to be apart of their growth, and eventually their accomplishments and growing excitement for the work we do. Whether im actively precepting or simply being available to new staff who have questions about a process or clinical concern, being a mentor is one of the many joys of this position.

Field training time can be stressful, I took pride in myself not only having a high standard for those training under me, but a gentle approach to help build confidence in skills and patient care. When problems within the training period presented, I was able to provide the new hire with guidance when necessary, and at times coming together with members of the continuing education department to trouble shoot and come up with a safe plan for trainees who were struggling.
  • I have also had the opportunity to assist in new hire academy's including emergency vehicle operation training. Working with new employees was both fun and an absolute honor.
