Prepare patients for surgery. This encompasses outpatients for scheduled surgery, ER patients added on for urgent or emergent surgery and inpatients from any unit in the hospital including ICU and Labor and Delivery. Care involves screening patient appropriateness for surgery and reaching out to surgeon and anesthesiologist for concerns based on patient interview and assessment. Additional care involves completing preop checklist, preop teaching, starting IVs, drawing lab work, performing EKGs, assisting anesthesia team with placement of invasive monitoring and central venous access lines as well as nerve blocks, spinal anesthestic injection and placement of epidural catheters. Communication with multiple other disciplines involved in care of patients is imperative.

Provide care to patients in PACU phase II, being prepared for discharge. This care involves assessment, teaching patient and support person about post op care per surgeon and anesthesia instructions through verbal and written instructions as well as demonstration of drain care upon discharge.

My personal employment agreement in Surgical Services and HDH Forest has included working both scheduled shifts and lunch relief in PACU Phase I as well as working in Pre Admission Testing and Ambulatory Surgery Center as needed.

Provide pre, intra, post procedure and discharge care to patients undergoing image guided procedures. Procedures range from ultrasound guided central venous access placement, thoracentesis, paracentesis, ultrasound or CT guided biopsies and drain placements, as well as complex vascular procedures under fluoroscopy to restore blood flow or stop internal bleeding. Procedures performed on scheduled outpatients, inpatients, as well as emergent ER/trauma/ICU patients. Care provided during department hours as well as part of a 24/7 call team in this Level I trauma center.

Responsibilities include assessment, administration of moderate sedation, continuous monitoring throughout procedures sometimes lasting 3-4 hours, procedural documentation, communication with other members of healthcare team. Able to function as both RN providing direct care as well as circulator. Able to scrub and assist with central venous access placement, including suturing lines. Care provided under guidance of Interventional Radiologists as well as Vascular Surgeons performing cases with and without O.R. teams in Interventional Radiology. Assist in all department related functions such as scheduling, charge nurse duties, stocking supplies and cleaning.

Provide comprehensive, collaborative care to critically ill medical and surgical patients. Care involves both direct patient care as well as patient and family teaching and emotional support, charge nurse responsibilities, orienting newly hired RNs, responding to Rapid Response, Code Blue, and Trauma codes throughout hospital, coordinating care of patients transferring in and out of ICU to different levels of care, serving on unit and hospital-wide committees.

Provide comprehensive, collaborative care to critically ill medical and surgical patients. Care involves both direct patient care as well as patient and family teaching and emotional support, charge nurse responsibilities, orienting newly hired RNs, responding to Code Blue incidents throughout hospital, coordinating care of patients transferring in and out of ICU to different levels of care, serving on unit and hospital-wide committees.

Provide comprehensive, collaborative care to medical surgical patients including specialty care of patients with diabetes as part of a Diabetes Treatment Center, care of urology and oncology patients including administration of chemotherapy. Function as charge nurse, preceptor, team leader, primary care nurse. Coordinate transfer of patients to higher levels of care as well as discharge to home or other care facilities.
