I am the Career and Technical Education secretary for WVSD currently based at the Innovation Center, I am the point of contact for the main office and administrative staff. I have been employed with the West Valley School District since August 2010.
I maintain CTE accounts, budgets and state certifications, work with staff, parents, students and the public to provide information and direction. I maintain all CTE records including budgets, student enrollment and completer reports and all budgetary records for Washington State auditing federal and state grants.
I manage all purchasing and travel for over forty district CTE employees and process reports and information needed for district, state and federal requirements. I am in charge of building substitutes, building keys and supplies. I work closely with our facilities department to coordinate and properly code projects throughout the district.
I feel I do all this in a timely efficient matter while keeping staff and administrators informed and even keeled.
I have helped train other staff and substitutes for secretary positions.
My duties also include, but are not limited to, using the Skyward state record keeping system to enter daily attendance including absences, tardies and discipline. My responsibilities include running daily staff absences with corresponding substitutes and class rosters as needed. I edit software to send e-mails to families, students and staff. I am trained and able to set up attendance year start and run Washington State yearend reports. I have helped run trial attendance software and implemented a student ID kiosk connected to Skyward to speed up student check in. I have worked with the high school attendance secretary to align the attendance procedures in our buildings.
I have worked closely with the district bilingual translators when I needed assistance outside of my limited Spanish language skills.
Previous to my current position I spent 2 years as the office paraprofessional at Apple Valley Elementary in charge of their daily attendance.
I have been trained to intake and administer medication according to West Valley School District and Washington State regulations with experience in both elementary and secondary levels. I am first aid and CPR certified.
All my jobs required me to adjust my schedule to work on tasks assigned by the building principal and requests from staff. I regularly have more than one task that I am working on consecutively. I often come into contact with disgruntled parents, staff and students requiring me to think quickly on my feet and find solutions to ease their anxieties. I am organized, personable and positive with a quirky sense of humor.
