ACTIVITIES

  • Recognizing that this field was competitive in my early years helped me set a goal of working together and growing together for the benefit of the Deaf community that I serve. I have served on our state QAST (Quality Assurance, Screening, Test), I have been an evaluator for the state since 2004, I have been on the QAST Advisory Committee since 2016.
  • I have volunteered for our state conferences as an interpreter since 2006, and from 2018-2021 I served as president of Oklahoma Registry for the Deaf (OKRID). I have worked with Oklahoma Educational Interpreter Training Institute (OETI) since 2018. This is an organization that works with lower-level interpreters to achieve higher certification. I am a member of the Oklahoma Association of the Deaf (OAD, the National Association of the Deaf (NAD), the Registry of Interpreters of the Deaf (RID), and OKRID.

Richard Mullins Award -OKRID 2024

Richard Mullins was seen as one of the most supportive deaf individuals for interpreters.  He presented workshops which allowed Oklahoma to be seen as a model for other states.  He and his wife attended every OKRID conference and help mold OKRID into what it is today.  He did all this of his own goodwill without request for payment.  Richard was a warm and caring individual whose mission was to help interpreters succeed. To honor his memory OKRID established the Richard Mullins Award.
