  • I have been teaching various online courses for the Criminal Justice Department during the regular sessions.

  • We started a Criminal Justice class (elective) for upper class high school students which I teach for one period per day. I left that position after three (3) years and located another retired Chief of Police to take my place and continue the class.
  • I have also been substituting as necessary for High School teachers.
  • For the past couple of years, I have also served as a “Guardian”, providing security for the School District (all campuses).

Chief of Police

  • I served as the Chief of Police for a department of eight {8} sworn officers and one civilian employee. As such, I am responsible for the daily operations of the department in providing law enforcement for the City of Weimar. I am also responsible for all administrative duties of the police department, including budgeting, training, staffing, equipment, vehicles, etc.
  • I have worked on all types of criminal cases. The most notable case was that of Rafael Resendez Ramirez (aka "The Railroad Killer") who bludgeoned to death a minister and his wife in our City and started a nationwide manhunt.
  • In my position, over the past twenty plus years, I have dealt with all types of people, employees and the public. I have been fortunate to have been able to make numerous advancements in policing in our City, including the addition of equipment, vehicles, facilities, training and the computerization of our offices and vehicles.
  • Our department was also awarded the Recognized Status from the Best Practices Recognition Program of the Texas Police Chiefs Association.

  • I started an independent insurance agency with my wife. The agency represented numerous standard and surplus lines insurance companies. We provided insurance coverage for individuals and businesses throughout the State.
  • My ex-wife assumed operation of the agency upon our divorce.

  • In this position, I worked for the County Judge and established a self-insurance program for Fayette County to include property, liability and worker's compensation.
  • We also created a self-funded major medical health insurance program for county employees and their dependents.
  • I served as the 9-1-1 coordinator and established a rural addressing program for the County.
  • I also served as the Emergency Management Coordinator and initiated a county-wide emergency management plan.
  • This position was eliminated 1/1/92 by the new Judge.

Deputy Sheriff

  • I served as a Deputy Sheriff for the Precinct 2 area of Fayette County. My time was divided between this position and that of the administrative assistant to the County Judge. In my capacity as a deputy sheriff, I was responsible for all phases and areas of law enforcement and worked all types of cases, including a double homicide.
  • I left this position to become the full-time Administrative Assistant.
