My name is Regina Faught and I am a veteran, certified teacher. I have taught in the same school district for 21 years. I have built many parental and student relationships through lessons and visits. Throughout my many years of teaching I was a self-contained kindergarten teacher for 14 years. I taught all subject areas as well as hands on learning through center play and interaction. After an amazing 14 years in early childhood, I transferred to another position within the same district. I was in the computer lab for 3 years and taught all grade levels from kindergarten through 5th grade. I taught math through a few different computer based programs including Math Facts, Accelus, Freckle Math and IXL. I utilized Lexia Core5 as a reading program which was a wonderful tool in assisting me help each student right where they were in their learning process. This program placed each student at their level of learning and individualized lessons that fit their needs. I used data to help me stay on top of knowing where each student excelled as well as where they may be having problems. Knowing how to read this data guided me on what areas one-on-one assistance was most needed. I also administered Early Literacy, Star Math and Star Reading tests for all students grades K-5. I was responsible for reading the data from these reports as a means of collaborating with their home room teachers as to their performance on standard tests. These scores determined which students were placed on tiers and were in need of additional instruction from a Title 1 specialist. After my 3 years in the lab, I then transferred to 4th grade and was once again a self-contained teacher teaching all subject areas. I really enjoyed my one year spent in 4th grade and received Elementary Teacher of the Year that year. With Covid 19 hitting, our numbers dropped in that particular grade level. At this point, I was needed in first grade. I have taught first grade 3 years thus far and have thoroughly enjoyed teaching children to read through Saxon phonics and phonetics. As of now, I am currently awaiting to find out if I will be teaching first, second, or fourth grade for the upcoming 2023-2024 school year if I remain a teacher in the public school system. I am thankful and feel blessed to have gained 21 years’ experience with a variety of different early childhood and elementary grade levels. I have learned as much from my students as I hope they have learned from me over the years. I am looking forward to hopefully embarking on a new journey with EPIC Charter School as a one-on-one instructor.
