• Assists with individual instruction and works with assigned student under the direction of the special education teacher to reinforce learning of skills and materials initially introduced by the teacher.
• Assists the teacher in strategies for reinforcing materials or skills based on understanding of the individual student, and their needs, interests and abilities.
• Guides independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work as assigned by the special education teacher
• Reads and listens to students read and participates in other forms of oral communication with student
• Engages the student in conversation to encourage language development
• Alerts the teacher to any problems or special information about the student
• Maintains a code of ethics and confidentiality of information about student
• Assists teacher with non-instructional classroom duties such as snack, toileting, and clothing routines
• Supervises student during lunch periods, recess, before and after school hours, assemblies and on field trips
• At the direction of the teacher, removes students to "time out" and follows prescribed procedures which allow the student to return to class
