As a Mail Handler in a 24 hour processing plant, I held many different jobs under this title.
1. Mail Handler Equipment Operator which I've done the majority of my postal career. This job consisted of loading and unloading trucks with PIT equipment (forklift) when they arrived on the docks from the smaller neighborhood stations so the mail could be processed throughout the building on multiple sorting machines in the plant.
2. Mail Handler Mail Tech. This job consist of working on a mail sorting machine with over 200 bins. My job was to make sure that each container of mail had the correct labels on them before they were dispatched out to the dock or transferred to another machine final sortation. I had to work closely with In-plant support because of the many scheme changes that would occur.
As a Mail Handler for over 30 years my job has taught me to pay close attention to the details of the job.
