• Provided comprehensive care to patients in the cardiac medical and surgical step-down unit where the patient population consisted of: pre/post cardiac surgery, pre/post heart transplants, Berlin heart, LVADs, inotropes, cardiac catheterization and management of cardiac arrhythmias
• Worked within interdisciplinary health care teams to develop, implement and make adjustments to patient care plans; individualizing strategies and methods to improve health and meet recovery goals
• Taught patients and their families extensively on disease processes, pre/post surgery instructions, medication administration, nutrition and pain management
• Served as a preceptor to several new graduate and experienced nurses to help foster their nursing skills and knowledge of the specific cardiac patient population
• Promoted and maintained quality patient care by overseeing nursing operations, teaching and assisting nursing staff, and implementing practices and policies as a resource nurse for a 44 bed inpatient cardiovascular unit.
